CONTEST RULES

  1. Applications accepted until close of business, October 31, 2008. The contest will kick-off with an initial weigh-in on Monday November 10, 2008 and will run for six (6) months.  The contest will end with a final pet weigh-in Monday May 11, 2009.
  2. Owners agree to bring their pet in on the 2nd and 4th Monday of each month for a physical exam including weigh-ins, measurements and photos.
  3. Owners agree participating pets will not be given treats (unless approved by Doc•Side) or people food during the term of the contest.
  4. Weight Loss Is Determined By Percentage of weight lost  NOT total number of pounds lost so all have a fair chance to win, whether I have a Great Dane or a Chihuahua
  5. It is FREE to enter the contest. There is no application fee or cost to apply, however, each dog selected to participate in the Healthiest Hound contest will be required to have a physical exam, blood work and Thyroid test by Doc•Side Veterinary Medical Center to ensure they are healthy enough to participate in a weight loss contest.
  6. There are 2 prizes:
  7. The dog losing the largest percent of body weight at the final weigh-in will win a one year supply of free Hills Prescription Diet® Prescription food.
  8. The dogs’ owner will win a one year membership to the Canton Health Club in Baltimore.
  9. Any overweight dog in the Baltimore area is eligible to participate in the contest.  Your dog does not have to be a current patient of Doc•Side Veterinary Medical Center.
  10. Owners agree to feed their dog the Hills Prescription Diet food recommended by their Doc•Side Veterinarian.
  11. Owners agree participating pets will not be on Slentrol or any other weight reducing medications.
  12. There are 3 ways to enter your pet in the Healthiest Hound Contest:
    • You Can Enter On-Line: attach 2 digital photos (1 side view & 1 overhead view) and click submit.
    • Mail In Your Application:  attach 2 photos (1 side view & 1 overhead view) and mail to:

    • In Person: Bring 2 photos (1 side view & 1 overhead view) to Doc•Side , complete an application, attach the photos and give to the Receptionist. 
  13. There will be NO CHARGE for each participant to be weighed and examined twice a month   to evaluate their health and progress.
  14. To qualify for the contest, dogs must have a Body Condition Score greater than 3 or be at least 15% overweight.  Determining if your pet is carrying too many pounds can be tough, so we have placed a copy of the Hills Body Condition Score Chart at the contest website. Go to www.docsidevet.com, click on the Healthiest Hound logo in the upper right corner, click on “Know the Score” on the home page and find picture that depicts your dogs body.  In addition, there is a link to the ideal weight ranges of the most common breeds.
  15. There will be six (6) dogs selected for the contest.
  16. Doc•Side will review all applications received by close of business October 20, 2008 and select six (6) dogs who will compete for the grand prize.  Each contestant’s owner will be notified by phone and receive a written invitation by mail.
