SUCCESS STORIES

“Jolie” Salerno

Hello Baltimoreans! That irresistibly cute Welsh Corgi is me, Jolie Salerno.  A few years ago my mom went away to college and had her grandparents foster me.  Although it was great for my taste buds, living with grandma and grandpa was not good for my health.  During my time there, they fed me a lot of table scraps like fried chicken and sandwich crusts.  These tasty treats made it very hard for me to walk because of my short legs and since my back is longer than other breeds it put a lot of extra weight on my spine.  After my mom graduated from college, I left her grandparents weighing close to 32 pounds.  My mom barely recognized me with my big belly, so she consulted her veterinarian on how to safely get me back to my ideal body condition.  They placed me on Hill’s Prescription Diet W/D Formula dog food and guess what, it was chicken flavored so it tasted great!  Thanks to my mom and veterinarian, I am proud to tell you I am down to a healthier 21 pounds!

“Maddie” Tierney

Hi.  My name is Maddie, although my friends call me Maddie Puppy because I still look so cute! When I was little I was able to give my parents the slip and get outside without a leash.  Unfortunately I had not learned the rules of the road yet and did not know that traffic was not a place for puppies to play. Man, did that hurt! My little body was no match for that car and my left front leg took the worst of it.  My leg was not able to be completely repaired and faces sideways.  Mom says it gives me character.  Because I had trouble walking, exercise was a challenge and as I began to grow so did my waistline!  My doctor told mom that my extra pounds were not good for my leg and that, ideally, I needed to lose about 8 pounds. Considering I only weighed 40 lbs, mom and I were pretty overwhelmed. We decided we were up to the challenge and off we went on a road to better health.  I was reluctant to try the new food but Mom was determined.  I actually began to like the Hills Prescription food and, although, slow to start, the pounds began to disappear.  I have a lot of hair so not everyone noticed my weight loss right away, but I did.  I was in less pain and began to get the spring back in my step.  I am now a svelte 31 pounds and looking cute as ever. Unlike summers in the past, my mom and I have been able to take walks together…On a leash of course!

“Lulu” Hill

I’m Lulu Hill, an apricot, Standard Poodle.  The past few years I have traveled a lot from Baltimore to the south so my meals weren’t always consistent.  Because of this I weighed over 70 pounds back in 2004.  My dad noticed that my coat wasn’t shining as much as it used to and that I was less energetic.  He decided to visit Dr. Herling to make sure I didn’t have any major medical problems.  To our surprise he said I did have a major issue, I was overweight.  Dr. Herling said I could start having more problems like arthritis, diabetes, and hypothyroidism if I continued to get bigger.  He suggested I be placed on a Hill’s Prescription Diet to help me lose weight safely.  Since 2004 I have lost over 12 pounds and am the most beautiful 11-year-old southern poodle you’ve ever seen, at least that’s what my dad says.
